Day 1: Ankara - Ihlara
After arriving at Ankara station you will travel to Ihlara Valley by public touring car. On the way you will pass by the caravanserai of Agzikarahan and the village of Selime before reaching the Ihlara Valley. Around midday we'll arrive at Ihlara Valley that is situated in a canyon where the Melendiz River flows through. During a 3 hour walk through this valley you will be able to visit the churches that have been cut out of the canyon walls and have been decorated with frescoes. In the afternoon we'll stop for lunch at the rivers edge. The night is spent camping.
Day 2: Ihlara - Guzelyurt - Gosterli
Fist day cycling: we start off on the bike in the direction Guzelyurt. There we will visit the old Greek church and monastery. Afterwards we'll stop for a picnic lunch before cycling to the thermal lake of Nargol where it is possible to swim. We will spend the night at one of the inhabitants of Gosterli. (40 km cycling)
Day 3: Gosterli - Derinkuyu - Soganli
Early in the morning we start cycling to the underground city of Derinkuyu. After exploring the underground city that consists of 8 floors and reaches a depth of 55 meters we'll have lunch. Then we head for Soganli Valley that was inhabited until the end of the 19 th century. The night is spent camping. (70 km cycling)
Day 4: Soganlı - Mustapha Pasha
Starting from Soğanlı we cycle to the village of Sahinefendi, then towards the village of Taskinpasa. Here we can visit the 13th century mosque. We continue by way of Damsa Lake where we can bathe before going to the troglodyte village of Golgoli. If desired we can cycle up a nearby pass for a good view of the surrounding countryside. We follow on to the old Greek village of Sinassos (now renamed Mustafapacha) where the churches of St. Basil and Constantine and Helene can be visited. The night is spent in a pension. (65 km of cycling)
Day 5: Mustapha Pasha - Çavusin
The first part of the day is spent cycling through the valley of Gomede This valley contains countless multi-storied pigeon houses. Our tour then continues onto Ortahisar where we can visit the churches of Pancarlik and the 'hospital' monastery (so called because the monks made medicine to cure the local population). In Ortahisar we will stop for lunch before heading to the Red and Rose Valleys that are full of troglodyte dwellings. The final stop of the day is in Çavuşin where we will stay in a pension. (45 km of cycling)
Day 6: Çavusin - Uçhisar - Ortahisar -Ibrahim Paşa - Çavusin
By cycling through White Valley we will arrive at Uçhisar village. Here we will stop to visit the citadel that dominates the village. Then, following a cart track we will go to Ibrahim Pasa. After a short break we'll continue towards the village of Bahçeli and Ayvali before returning to Çavusin. Here we will stay at the pension. (55 km of cycling)
Day 7: Çavusin - Nar - Çat - Çavusin
In the morning we make our way to the village of Nar. After a look around the village and a tea break we will cycle to Çat village. From here we'll descent into the valley of the same name and make our way towards Açiksaray Valley. Here we can visit pigeon houses, churches and the famous fairy chimneys. Then we'll cycle along a small road to Çavuşin. The remaining part of the day can be spent visiting the local arts and crafts centers. (40 km of cycling)
Day 8: Çavusin - Zelve - Devrent - Sarihidir - Saruhan - Avanaos - Çavusin
In the morning our route takes us to the Paşabağ en then on to Devrent Valley. We'll then cycle to the Caravanserai of Saruhan and afterwards onwards to the town of Avanos that is famous for its pottery shops. The day ends at the pension in Çavuşin. (40 km of cycling) |
