Day 1: ARRIVAL CAPPADOCIA
One of our guides will be waiting to greet you at Ankara airport. He will take you by minibus to your pension in the village of Çavuşin, which is located in the heart of Cappadocia.
Day 2: ÇAVUŞİN - PAŞABAĞI
The morning will be spent exploring the old village of Çavuşin that consists of cave dwellings with in their midst the 5 th century church of St. John the Baptist. We return to the pension for lunch. Departing on foot from Çavuşin in the afternoon Paşabaği Valley is explored that contains numerous fairy chimney rock-formations. The trek continues through to Çavuşin. (Total walking time is approximately 4 hours)
Day 3: WHITE VALLEY - UÇHİSAR - PIGEON VALLEY - ROSE VALLEY
The first part of the morning will be spent in White Valley. A two hour walk will take you through the bizarre Cappadocia landscape to the village of Uçhisar. This village is dominated by a 60-meter-high rock that is riddled with cave dwellings. A climb to the top of this fortress provides a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. After lunch in the village the hike continues through Pigeon Valley to Göreme. After a look round the small town of Göreme we carry on walking to Rose Valley. The night will be spent camping in the midst of this valley. At a natural water source near the campsite you will be able to refresh yourself. (Total walking time is approximately 5 hours)
Day 4: KILIÇLAR VALLEY - GÖREME OPEN AIR MUSEUM - RED VALLEY
In the morning we walk via Kılıçlar Valley, which contains rock-cut churches and monasteries, to the Göreme Open Air Museum. This museum was originally a monastic settlement and contains over thirty churches (mainly 9 th -11 th century) with some of the best preserved frescoes in the whole Cappadocia region. After the museum the trek continues through Zindanönü Valley with its troglodyte houses and churches to Red Valley where at an especially prepared campsite the night shall be spent. (Total walking time is approximately 5 hours)
Day 5: BOZDAĞ - ZELVE OPEN AIR MUSEUM
In the morning you will depart from Red Valley and ascend 274 meters to the top of the Bozdağ mound. This point offers one of the best panoramic views of the surrounding Cappadocia countryside. Afterwards, on the way down to region is so famous. The m useum is a now deserted monastery complex that was inhabited until 1955, when falling rocks made the place too dangerous to continue living in. The complex is stretched out over three valleys, two of which are connected by a still accessible, though very dark, tunnel. The complex contains numerous chapels and medieval oratories many of which are decorated with carved crosses. In the afternoon you will be able to discover the local handicrafts of Cappadocia . By minibus you will visit a local pottery factory and a carpet/kilim workshop. At the end of the afternoon you will have the opportunity to revitalize yourself at a Turkish bath (entrance fee not included). The night is spent at the pension in Çavuşin. (Total walking time is approximately 4 hours)
Day 6: DERİNKUYU UNDERGROUND CITY - IHLARA - ÇAVUŞİN
In the morning you will depart from Çavuşin by minibus in the direction of the Ihlara Valley. On the way a stop is made at the underground city at Derinkuyu. This underground city consists of a total of eight floors that reach to a depth of 55 meters. This complete city contains rooms that where used as stables, dining rooms, a school, armories, churches, a dungeon and of course living quarters. The afternoon will be spent in the beautiful valley of Ihlara. Through the valley flows the Melendiz River that is bordered by green meadows and overhung by imposing red cliffs that reach a height of up to 90 meters. In the afternoon we stop for lunch at a local riverside restaurant. At the end of the day we return to Çavuşin by minibus for the night. (Total walking time is approximately 4 hours)
Day 7: TOROS - BÜYÜKÇAKİR
In the morning we leave by minibus for the Toros Mountains. The village of Yahyali will be visited on the way. At the end of the afternoon you will find yourself in the midst of the Toros range in the village of Büyükçakir. Here you will have diner and spend the night in the house of one of the local inhabitants. (Distance from Çavuşin to Büyükçadir is approximately 180 km - 4 hours by minibus)
Day 8: BÜYÜKÇADIR - DİVRİG
In the morning you will depart from the village of Büyükçakir and make your way on foot to the plains of Divrig. These plains, which are at an altitude of 2200 meters, are home to mountain nomads in the summer time. Here you will stop for a lunchtime picnic on a spot where you will be able to admire the various views of the valleys beneath. Afterwards the trek leads to the place where a campsite has been prepared for you to spend the night. (Total walking time is approximately 7 hours)
Day 9: DİVRİG MOUNTAIN - KAPUZBASİ
For breakfast butter, honey and yoghurt will be served that have been made by the nomads. The days trek takes us to the village of Kapuzbasi (800 m). On the way we'll stop for a picnic. The night is spent in the village. (Total walking time is approximately 5 hours)
Day 10: ESENTEPESİ - KAPUZBASİ - SELALE
The days trek will lead you through the forests close to Esentepesi. The trek leads to the enchanting waterfalls of Kapuzbasi, where you will have plenty of time to enjoy the scenery on the cool banks of the river. The night shall be spent in the village of Selale. (Total walking time is approximately 4 hours)
Day 11: ARMUTCUK - SARİMSAKLİ - SELALE
After breakfast at the side of the river we walk to Armutcuk and Sarimsakli, both of which are small peaks of the Toros Mountain range. The day will end with a camp fire and a barbecue by the waterfalls and the night will be spent in the village. (Total walking time is approximately 4 hours)
Day 12: ÇAVUŞIN
After breakfast you will head back to Cappadocia by minibus where you will stay at the pension in Çavuşin.
Day 13: VALLEY GOMEDA - ÜZENGİ - ORTAHİSAR
In the morning we travel 25 km by minibus to Gomeda Valley . After visiting the churches here we will walk through Üzengi Valley. This valley contains countless multi-storied pigeon houses. After a picnic in the valley we will walk to the village of Ortahisar, then cross the mound of Zindanönü to Çavuşin. The night is spent in the pension in Çavuşin. (Total walking time is approximately 7 hours)
Day 14: CAPPADOCIA - ANKARA
In the morning you are free do as you wish. In the afternoon we travel to Ankara by minibus. The night is spent in a hotel in the city center.
Day 15: DEPARTURE
Your guide will take you to Ankara airport by minibus. |
