Day 1: Arrival Cappadocia
One of our guides will be waiting to greet you at Ankara airport. He will take you by minibus to your pension in the village of Çavuşin, which is located in the heart of Cappadocia.
Day 2: White valley - Uchisar - Pigeon valley
The first part of the morning will be spent in White Valley. A two hour walk will take you through the bizarre Cappadocia landscape to the village of Uçhisar. This village is dominated by a 60-meter-high rock that is riddled with cave dwellings. A climb to the top of this fortress provides a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. After lunch in the village the hike continues through Pigeon Valley to Göreme. After a look round the small town of Göreme we carry on walking to Rose Valley. The night will be spent camping in the midst of this valley. At a natural water source near the campsite you will be able to refresh yourself. (Total walking time is approximately 5 hours)
Day 3: Kiliclar Valley - Goreme open air museum - Red valley
In the morning we walk via Kılıçlar Valley, which contains rock-cut churches and monasteries, to the Göreme Open Air Museum. This museum was originally a monastic settlement and contains over thirty churches (mainly 9 th -11 th century) with some of the best preserved frescoes in the whole Cappadocia region. After the museum the trek continues through Zindanönü Valley with its troglodyte houses and churches to Red Valley where at an especially prepared campsite the night shall be spent. (Total walking time is approximately 5 hours)
Day 4: Bozdag - Zelve open air museum
In the morning you will depart from Red Valley and ascend 274 meters to the top of the Bozdağ mound. This point offers one of the best panoramic views of the surrounding Cappadocia countryside. Afterwards, on the way down to region is so famous. The m useum is a now deserted monastery complex that was inhabited until 1955, when falling rocks made the place too dangerous to continue living in. The complex is stretched out over three valleys, two of which are connected by a still accessible, though very dark, tunnel. The complex contains numerous chapels and medieval oratories many of which are decorated with carved crosses. In the afternoon you will be able to discover the local handicrafts of Cappadocia. By minibus you will visit a local pottery factory and a carpet/kilim workshop. At the end of the afternoon you will have the opportunity to revitalize yourself at a Turkish bath (entrance fee not included). The night is spent at the pension in Çavuşin. (Total walking time is approximately 4 hours)
Day 5: Gomeda valley - Uzengi - Ortahisar
In the morning we travel 25 km by minibus to Gomeda Valley. After visiting the churches here we will walk through Üzengi Valley. This valley contains countless multi-storied pigeon houses. After a picnic in the valley we will walk to the village of Ortahisar, then cross the mound of Zindanönü to Çavuşin. The night is spent in the pension in Çavuşin. ( Total walking time is approximately 7 hours)
Day 6: Derinkuyu - Belisirma
We travel to Ihlara Valley in the morning by minibus. On the way a stop is made at the underground city at Derinkuyu. This underground city consists of a total of eight floors that reach to a depth of 55 meters. This complete city contains rooms that where used as stables, dining rooms, a school, armories, churches, a dungeon and of course living quarters. Afterwards we stop at the ancient village of Guzelyurt for lunch. In the afternoon we continue by minibus to Belisirma located in the Ihlara Valley where the night is spent camping.
Day 7: Ihlara valley - Ankara
The greater part of the day is spent in the beautiful valley of Ihlara. Through the valley flows the Melendiz River that is bordered by green meadows and overhung by imposing red cliffs that reach a height of up to 90 meters. In the afternoon you will stop for lunch at a local riverside restaurant. At the end of the day we travel to Ankara by minibus where we spend the night in a hotel.
Day 8: Departure
Your guide will take you to the airport of Ankara in the minibus. |
